The man is human after all…

Whenever we mention Sonny Bill Williams on these pages it is usually to pay tribute to a stunning hand-off, a great try, a brilliant offload or a knockout of a distinctly average boxer in the ring but he showed yesterday that even the greatest of them all have embarrassing moments now and then.

Sonny Bill is aiming to become the first player to win the World Cup in league and union and although that ambition remained on track with a 42-24 victory over Samoa in Warrington yesterday, his contribution was overshadowed with an embarrassing, if ultimately meaningless, slip when he was in for a try late on.

Having evaded the Samoa defence with a typically barnstorming run, Williams looked to casually touch the ball down unimpeded under the posts, but slipped at the vital moment and as his feet crossed the end-line before he touched the ball down, the try was not allowed.

Best blame the studs in this type of situation Sonny Bill; always blame the studs.

Hat-tip to Mike Fitzgibbon for sending this one into us
