Because in Japan, seemingly, you have to earn the right to throw out the first pitch…

We don’t watch a whole lot of baseball in JOE Towers, but from our limited knowledge we have gathered that all an even slightly recognisable celebrity has to do is show up at a ballpark for an MLB game and they’ll be asked to throw out the first pitch. In Japan you have to work a little harder, or at least actress and martial artist Rina Takeda had to before a recent game between Chiba Lotte Marines and Saitama Seibu Lions, when she first broke ten cement blocks piled on top of each other with her head, in one go, before heading to the mound to throw out the first pitch. It was hardly the best pitch you’ll ever see – it fell well short in fact – but the poor girl was after breaking ten cement blocks with her head, what did you expect? Hat-tip: ESPN
