Harsh call, or was the referee right to give the Derry midfielder his marching orders?
Doherty was sent for an early bath during the first half of the National League semi-final after barrelling into the Mayo midfielder – who’s not an easy man to knock – on the touchline just after O’Shea had kicked the ball down the line. The commentators on TG4 felt that Doherty’s eyes were on O’Shea and not on the ball and that he was deservedly dismissed and although it would have been incredibly hard to stop when running at that speed, looking at the footage above you can see where they’re coming from.
