Captains his country on Saturday night, scores 1-5 in a county final on Sunday and sets up a goal with an outrageous piece of soccer-style skill. Is there anything Michael Murphy can’t do?

Fears that Murphy might be a little overcooked for Glenswilly’s county final meeting with Killybegs on Sunday proved unfounded as the Donegal skipper inspired his club to an emphatic 3-19 – 2-6 victory in Ballybofey.

Although Murphy contributed 1-5 to the scoreboard, his most outstanding moment came when he helped set up a goal for Ciarán Bonner in the second half with an audacious flick that took two defenders out of the game and opened up an ocean of space for his teammates to inflict further misery on the opposition.

Special mention must also go to Kealan McFadden for the delightful dinked pick-up at high speed and to Bonner for the emphatic finish but Murphy deserves the most plaudits for his role in the goal.

Even the watching Seamus Coleman would have been impressed despite his loyalty to Killybegs; hell, Messi would be proud of this one, worthy of watching over and over and over again.
