Video: Goalkeeper shown red card after he patted opposition striker’s buttocks

We've seen some silly red cards in our time, but this one is right up there with the craziest of them all.

We’ve seen some silly red cards in our time, but this one is right up there with the craziest of them all.

In the Honduran league match between Real Sociedad and Marathon, the goalkeeper for Marathon, Junior Morales was sent off after the assistant referee drew the ref’s attention to some buttock patting.

The buttocks of one of the Sociedad players was playfully patted by the Marathon keeper but that was deemed a red card offence between the match officials.

It’s bizarre as there is no malice or force used. It’s a simple little friendly pat. Now, we are not encouraging football to become a petting fest, but common sense has gone AWOL here and it’s just a ridiculous decision from the officials.

We hope he didn’t receive a suspension for this innocuous action and we here in JOE have chosen to take the Morales high ground. Sorry.
