The lock will now miss the Rugby Championship decider against New Zealand next week.
Even though it only merited a yellow during the game, Flip van der Merwe will sit out next week’s Rugby Championship decider with New Zealand after the South African was hit with a one-game ban by the citing commissioner today.
Van der Merwe clearly led with the elbow as Wallaby wing Joe Tomane came at him, and that as we all know is not allowed.
