Scoring 1-6 in a narrow victory over one of your closest and biggest rivals in the county final; it wasn’t a bad day out for 37-year old Niall Gilligan yesterday.
The former All-Star and All-Ireland winner was the main man in Sixmilebridge’s victory over Newmarket-on-Fergus yesterday on what was a pretty rotten day in Cusack Park, accounting for all but four of his side’s scores in a 1-10 – 0-11 victory.
The veritable Ryan Giggs of Clare club hurling – we’re sure his off-field activities are far less x-rated than Giggsy’s of course – hit the net with a penalty after two minutes and ended up with 1-6 from full-forward, including a couple of beauts from play, while also wearing (and pulling off) a basketball-style sleeve for a large part of the game, a move that would have impressed the fashionistas in the audience.
Still got it.
