VIDEO: Hurling training session delayed in Dubai as helicopter lands on the pitch

Colm Boohig

You wouldn’t see this happening down the local GAA grounds here.

We’ve heard of training being delayed because of a bad injury, half the team hasn’t showed up, someone forgot to pay for the floodlights, but a halt in play because of a helicopter landing? We don’t think we’ve ever heard or seen the likes.

That’s exactly what happened to Dubai Celts GAA though during a joint hurling and camogie session.

JOE reader Jimbo Walsh, from Waterford, was on hand to record the rather unique video and has since explained to us what went down.

“This has never happened to us before and I’ve been playing for the Dubai Celts GAA club for the last seven years in Dubai.”

When asked why he thought this happened, Jimbo told us:

“There is a cricket stadium located 800 metres from the pitch and there was a match about to begin, so I guess whoever owned the helicopter didn’t fancy sitting in rush hour traffic!”

This is brilliant, take a look…

Training a bit delayed tonight for camogie and women's football. Helicopter on the pitch.
