Entry No 2,654 in our ‘Hockey players are hard bastards’ files is Daniel Alfredsson.

If we got slapped in the gob with the end of the hockey stick, especially if it was hard enough to knock out a couple of teeth, we’d demand an ambulance and a phone to call our mammy.

But as we all know Ice Hockey players are many, many levels of manliness above us so when Detroits Daniel Alfredsson was accidentally hit in the chops while playing New Jersey, he was the personification of cool.

Alfredsson never even went down. Instead he skated about to find his missing teeth, picked them up off the ice and calmly skated over to hand them to the lads on the bench, presumably for some sort of emergency dental work after the game.

Then he got back to playing, and he never even missed a single shift of the match, which the Red Wings would go on to lose 4-3.

Here’s the hit that caused the damage

Hit 1

And here is the brave skater picking up his teeth.
