Video: In case you missed Damien Varley’s brilliant performance last night on The Saturday Night Show

While some people were aware that Munster and Ireland hooker Damien Varley was a keen musician, they may not have realised quite how good he is until last night.

The big frontrower put in a top class performance along with the Ballina/Killaloe Gospel Choir in aid of Pink Ribbon and his rendition of “Lean on Me” with a hair raising performance, and no doubt hugely surprising to those that only associate the Clare man with his exploits on the rugby field.

After chatting to host Brendan O’Connor, he was coaxed into singing a snippet of Nancy Spain, not that he needed much encouragement to perform one of his favourite musician’s classic songs and we’d hazard a guess that Christy Moore himself would be proud of the performance last night.

As he said last night, the player is well used to belting out a few numbers during rugby camps and even sang at Paul o’Connell’s wedding, and it appears thatmusic will take over once he hangs up the boots down the line.
