Leinster were simply outstanding last night as they demolished Northampton and yet again it was Brian O’Driscoll who stood head and shoulders above all others.
The three-time champions put in a vintage European performance and had the bonus point wrapped up by the interval as they took control of the pool with a third successive win. Indeed such was the dominance that the Saints took over an hour to register their first score in front of the home supporters as Matt O’Connor’s men were ruthless in their pursuit of the perfect away performance.
While Luke Fitzgerald grabbed a hat-trick, the pack had the better of their opponents and some of the back play from the Kearney brothers, Ian Madigan and Zane Kirchner when he came on was top drawer, it was once again BOD who was the class apart.
He got on the scoresheet in the second half with an intercept try showing all his predatory instincts, but it was his pass in the lead up to Fitzgerald’s second, a between the legs pass to Rob Kearney who put the winger in for his second in just the opening seven minutes, that will live long in the memory.
With Warren Gatland watching on in the Sky Sports studio, it was yet another reminder of the genius at work.
