OK, so we’re marking the anniversary a day late, but this clip will never get old.
Yesterday was the three-year anniversary of Ireland’s memorable victory over Australia in Auckland at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, a game which marked Ireland’s first victory over the southern hemisphere big three (New Zealand, Australia and South Africa) in the southern hemisphere in 32 years.
Unfortunately, it proved to be the highlight of Ireland’s campaign in New Zealand, but what a highlight it was and if any moment summed up the performance of the men in green, it was when Stephen Ferris picked up the great Will Genia, carried him back (like a rag doll, as commentator Hugh Cahill famously put it) towards the Australia posts, dumped him on his arse and won a penalty at the end of the first half.
