Normally you don’t expect much apart from bland clichés at a press night ahead of an All-Ireland Final, but James Horan was even pulling out references from classic action movies last night.
We weren’t at the press night in Breaffy House ourselves last night but our interest in it was piqued by a tweet from Daniel Carey of the Mayo News, who revealed Horan’s very interesting response when asked about the progress being made by Cillian O’Connor in his recovery from a shoulder injury.
Unexpected #mayogaa quote of the day – James Horan, asked re Cillian O'Connor's injury: "I was gonna say, we've all watched Lethal Weapon"

Having pondered what Horan could have been referring to, Carey remembered a famous scene from Lethal Weapon 2 in which Riggs (Mel Gibson) bet his colleagues in the police station that he was able to free himself from a straitjacket by intentionally dislocating his shoulder, a bizarre skill which, conveniently enough, Riggs used to save his own life at another time.
Haven't seen Lethal Weapon for ages, but maybe James Horan was thinking of this yesterday (see last tweet): https://t.co/yWqeJElkFh #mayogaa

Gibson’s ability to manipulate his bone structure was all well and good until he had to painfully ram it back into place again and we hope for Cillian O’Connor’s sake that he doesn’t have to engage in such an unusual form of therapy in his efforts to be fit in time to face the Dubs later this month.
In any case, even though he’s only 21, we imagine Cillian would give the following Murtaugh-like response if asked to try out that kind of rehabilitation before the big day…
