Video: James Wade and Robert Thornton both hit nine-darters in the same match in Dublin last night

Unbelievable darts at the Citywest hotel last night.

A player throwing a nine-dart finish is a rare and incredible achievement, but for two players to throw a nine-darter apiece in the same match is off the scale altogether, but it happened in Dublin last night.

Prior to the meeting between James Wade and Robert Thornton at the World Grand Prix last night, there had only ever been one televised nine-darter from a double start – Brendan Dolan in 2011 – but it only took half an hour for both Wade and Thornton to follow in Dolan’s footsteps last night in scenes that were lapped up by the crowd and the commentators alike.

Wade ended up winning the match 3-2 to progress to the quarter-finals but we’re sure Thornton will find some consolation in the fact that he helped make a bit of history; it’ll no doubt be a long time before we see the like of this again.
