The show must go on.
As attention turns to a quarter-final with Argentina on Sunday, Joe Schmidt is coming to terms with having to do without some of his main servants for the rest of the Rugby World Cup.
After enjoying excellent luck on the injury front in the early stages, Paul O’Connell, Peter O’Mahony and Jared Payne have all been ruled out of the tournament since Saturday and the strength of Ireland’s squad will now be tested in the knockout stages.
As O’Connell has played his last game for Ireland, he was understandably the main focus of attention when Schmidt paid tribute to all three players today, but he was also keen to compliment O’Mahony and Payne and have a little dig at the latter’s critics while he was at it.
