You won’t retain your US Open title hitting the ball like that, Justin.

The defending champion struggled on the opening day of this year’s tournament at Pinehurst yesterday, finishing with a two-over par 72 that, at the time of writing, leaves him ten shots adrift of runaway leader Martin Kaymer. Rose didn’t help himself with an attempted chip to the green at the eighth hole, with the ball ending up landing just a couple of yards in front of him and his club flying even further away behind. Rose did redeem himself by knocking the follow-up effort to within inches of the pin, but at least this effort goes to show that everyone is human out on the course, even the top guys.
