Harsh truths

Harsh truths.

Manchester United fans will have to clear their Thursday night schedules in 2016 after the side were dumped out of the Champions League following a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in Germany.

While it’s not the first time that United have failed to progress past the group stages in the Champions League, many supporters have felt that this campaign was way below standards, especially considering that expenditure during the Van Gaal era has been in the region of £250m and above.

Former United players Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Michael Owen were on punditry duties for BT Sport last night and Ferdinand pulled no punches when he had to appraise the state of the current squad and the fact that they now have to play in the ’embarrassing’ Europa League.

Paul Scholes offered some glimmer of hope, stating that LVG’s men are just three points off league leaders Leicester, but the midfield maestro once again rued a lack of goals in the team while being critical of the increasing gulf that exists between United and Europe’s elite.
