As if we needed reminding that Marty Morrissey is the man with the most sex appeal in the GAA, he really turned it on with a brilliant speech at the Castlehaven GAA dinner dance at the weekend.

Characters don’t come much bigger in the GAA than the one and only Marty Morrissey and Cork senior football champions Castlehaven scored a big coup when booking the RTE commentator as the guest of honour for their annual dinner dance at the weekend.

As you would expect, Marty really turned on the style with a quite brilliant speech, starting off with a cutting roast of clubman Ronan Whelton by claiming that Marty was “the sex symbol of West Cork” before announcing to the congregation that he was “single and available and looking for a woman from West Cork”.

When Marty began the next part of his speech with a line about people from Clare being “great lovers but nobody believes us” and then asked everyone present to hug the person next to them, one must have begun to wonder if the steamy content of Marty’s speech would ever subside, but he went on to deliver an excellent speech that was full of praise for the Castlehaven club along with an extra special mention for Cork full forward Brian Hurley and filmmaker extraordinaire Ian Cahalane.

What a speech and indeed, what a man.
