Video: Michael Murphy tries to replicate THAT Maurice Fitzgerald point against the Dubs in 2001

In fairness there are only a few players playing today who could replicate one of the best points ever scored in Gaelic Football and Michael Murphy is one of them.

In fairness there are only a few players playing today who could replicate one of the best points ever scored in Gaelic Football and Michael Murphy is one of them.

By that we mean that Murphy would be capable of doing it under similar circumstances that Fitzgerald did because you’ll probably find at least one player in every club in the country who’ll tell you that they can pop it over from the sideline with the outside of the boot no problem in training but doing it in a high-pressured environment is another thing altogether.

We might see Murphy do it in a game at some stage, but for the present he was happy to give it a go in a promotional clip for the AIB Club Championships ahead of Glenswilly’s meeting with Ballinderry in the Ulster club final tomorrow.

In only his second effort, Murphy managed to land it over the black spot, although if we were to be picky (sorry Michael), the touchline that he was kicking from seemed to be a lot closer to the goals than the one Fitzgerald kicked that glorious effort from in Semple Stadium 12 years ago.

Want to see it again? Of course you do. It never gets old.
