Video: NFL star detained in airport for claiming that he had a bomb
San Francisco 49ers star Aldon Smith might be facing a bit of time behind bars after this latest incident
NFL star Aldon Smith, who plays defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers, was detained at LAX on Sunday afternoon after reacting badly to being security searched by staff at the airport.
Smith was randomly selected for a further search after going through the initial screening, at which point he became "uncooperative" and told airport police that he was in possession of a bomb, which is obviously a very bad move. He was then taken away by police at the gate, but they refused to name Smith, stating only that a resident of San Jose was in their custody.
As a result of his actions, he could be looking at around a year in jail according to ESPN, and has already had to pay $20,000 in bail to get himself out. The 49ers released a statement saying they were "disappointed" to learn about the incident, and will surely be considering further action, given that Smith has had several run ins with the law already.
