Video: Norwegian powerlifter lifting a record 475kg is kind of scary

That’s over four Paul O’Connell’s, the international measurement for big heavy things…

To be honest, lifting our head off the pillow every morning is tough enough and those large boxes of washing powder have been known to put our backs out so we really can’t imagine what lifting one Paul O’Connell is like. We’ll have to ask John Hayes next time we see him.

But Norwegian powerlifter Carl Yngvar Christensen has just broken the world squat lifting record by lifting 475kgs, or over four Paul O’Connells, as the Munster man tips the scales at 110kg.

In old money, you’re looking at a weight of 1,047 pounds, or just under 75 stone.

Next time we’re struggling with our bags from the supermarket, we reckon we’ll give Carl Yngvar a call.
