One of the greatest strikers of all time, the Dutch maestro, Marco van Basten is 50 today.
He has scored some absolute crackers throughout his glittering career and here’s just a sample of what this man was capable of:

Here’s another peach and this time against fierce rivals Feyenoord. He displays tenacity to win a ball he had no right to win, he stays on his feet as the defender tries to cut him in two and then he finishes with a sublime chip to leave the keeper stranded:

He went to AC Milan in a big money move and was part of their amazing squad which won a couple of European Cups. Here he is in the Champions League against Gothenburg showing he had lost none of his scissor-kicking powers. Stunning:
But easily our favourite goal from Marco van Basten is this stunning volley in the Euro ’88 Final against the Soviet Union which confirmed the Dutch as European champions for the first time in their history. Just watch it and then watch it again. It’s quite simply one of the greatest goals ever scored:
