VIDEO: Primary school students in Kildare pay tribute to Jonah Lomu with Haka ‘As Gaeilge’

RIP Jonah

Conor Heneghan

Go han-mhaith.

Yesterday, the great Jonah Lomu was remembered in a memorial service in Eden Park in Auckland, nearly two weeks after his untimely death at the age of 40.

Many of his former team-mates performed an emotional haka in his honour, while his friend and former team-mate Eric Rush delivered a warm and funny eulogy full of lovely stories about a rugby great.

Such was Lomu’s impact on rugby and sport that tributes flowed from all over the world following his death and in Ireland, Mr. O’Sullivan’s 5th & 6th class in Kilberry National School in Athy in Kildare decided to perform their own haka in his honour.

Titled ‘An Haca Gaelach ar son Jonah Lomu’, it’s not quite as scary as a squad of massive All-Blacks performing throat-slitting gestures, but there’s plenty of enthusiasm and effort gone into what is a lovely tribute to an All-Blacks legend.

Well played to Mr. O’Sullivan and to all involved.
