Video: Probably the biggest, most bone-shuddering hit of the year from New Zealand schools rugby

Forget anything that might happen during the Lions Tour Down Under, this is the biggest hit you’ll see all summer…

Forget anything that might happen during the Lions Tour Down Under, this is the biggest hit you’ll see all summer…

In the past we have fawned over the skill level in evidence whenever we come across footage of schools rugby in New Zealand, but it turns out they are as tough as they are talented while still in the developmental stage of their rugby careers.

The video above is from a schools match between Wanganui Collegiate School and St Paul’s Collegiate School and features what could well turn out to be the biggest hit of the year in any rugby game by Wanganui’s Ruslan Casey on a St. Paul’s opponent.

Having lined him up from a long way off, Casey careered into his opposite number at a frightening pace and just a little bit late, but in fairness to the victim of the shuddering tackle he picked himself up a few moments later after a teammate had made the most of his offload and touched down for a try.

The replay gives a better idea of the magnitude of the hit – just look at the way the head of the recipient of the tackle moves on impact – but it was good to see that there was no serious harm done in the end.

What. A. Hit.
