Ballyboden came within seconds – perhaps even less – of salvaging a draw in the Senior B Dublin hurling final in a dramatic game against Parnells at the weekend.

The game at Parnell Park was a close fought contest throughout, with Parnells enjoying the bare minimum lead at the interval.

With three points between the sides, Ballyboden were awarded a late free and goalkeeper Conor Dooley stepped up for his best Anthony Nash impression as he sought to raise the green flag needed to tie the game.

It appears that the referee insisted that the free would be the last puck of the game, so when the initial shot was parried, he blew for the full-time whistle, despite the sliothar ending up in the net immediately from the rebound.

The Ballyboden lads tried to plead their case to the man in the middle, but to no avail as and the losing side can consider themselves very unfortunate not to have got the goal they desperately needed. Parnells won out on a score line of 2-10 to 1-16.

Hat-tip to Boden midfielder Naoise Maguire for sending this our way on Twitter.
