While most eyes were on Jon Jones at UFC 165 as he edged past Alexander Gustafsson, knock out of the night was sewn up by Renan Barao.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jones avoided Anderson Silva’s recent fate and edged a resilient Gustafsson, for the second time in nearly three month teetering on the edge of a shock loss.

It was Barao however who landed the spectacular prize of the night, finishing Eddie Wineland 35 seconds into the second round of the contest, ensuring he became the first fighter in the UFC to defend an interim title twice.

The Brazilian ace becoming just the third fighter in the history of the promotion to earn victory via the attack and his winning streak now stretches to 21 matches and next in his sights is the undisputed bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who has been out of action for two years due to injuries.

He is expected to return to action next year and Barao should provide formidable opposition.
