Okay, this was a fluke but still…

Roger Federer may be 32 and his sublime skills may be just on the wane but he is still one hell of a player. The 17-time Grand Slam winner is now ranked No 6 in the world and to warm up for the Australian Open, the Swiss star is playing the Brisbane Invitational in, well, Brisbane.

Playing in the men’s doubles quarter finals with Nicolas Mahut, Federer produced a shot we didn’t even think was possible, even for him.

In an attempt to smash a return, the ball managed to hit the frame of Federer’s racquet, go over the net like a drop shot and then, due to the enormous spin the frame put on the ball, it bounced back onto his side of the net.

Yes, it definitely was an accident but it left opponents Jeremy Chardy and  Grigor Dimitrov baffled. And it won Federer and Mahut the point.

Fed and Mahut also went on to win the match, 11-9 in the third.
