Strong words from Ger Canning.
RTÉ commentator Ger Canning has branded the two teams involved in today’s FAI Cup Final as ‘disrespectful’ for warming up during the penalty shootout between Wexford Youth Ladies and Shelbourne Ladies.
After a hard-fought and riveting 2-2 draw between the two sides in the Ladies’ FAI Cup final, the game was set to be decided by penalties.
As the two teams prepared for the shootout, Dundalk and Cork City’s men’s teams came out onto the pitch in order to warm-up for their own game.
This provoked a strong response from the commentator who said that the men’s teams should not have come out onto the pitch, that it was disrespectful and that the women were ‘more than just a sideshow.’
