Ireland’s next captain is beloved by all.

Despite Ireland’s elimination from Euro 2016, the future is bright for Martin O’Neill and his side. Players like Jeff Hendrick, Robbie Brady and Shane Duffy will benefit immensely from the experience that they gained in their first international tournament and in Seamus Coleman, Ireland have a potential captain that will demand the very best and lead by example.

In a tournament that was full of memorable moments for Irish fans, the Everton right-back rallying James McCarthy during the famous 1-0 win against Italy with a passionate display of pride and intensity was up there with the best of them.

Since moving to Goodison Park from Sligo Rovers, Coleman’s rise has been meteoric and it’s very likely that Ronald Koeman will have to fend off the interest of some of Europe’s “bigger” clubs for the Killybegs man.

The right-back was an ever-present for Ireland during Euro 2016 and before he heads off for a well earned break, the defender returned home to meet some of his adoring fans in Donegal.

Here’s more footage of Coleman’s well earned ovation from his hometown.
