Video: Sergio Garcia’s act of sportsmanship at Accenture Match Play Championship

The very definition of fair play.

We do love a good sportsmanship story.

From Robbie Fowler to Paolo di Canio, we do feel better about millionaire sportsmen picking up millions of lovely monies when they do something nice for each other.

On Friday, in the third round of the 2014 WGC Accenture Match Play Championship, Sergio Garcia offered to halve the 7th hole with Rickie Fowler despite having a far better lie on the green.

This all came about because, on the previous 6th, Garcia had taken an age to drop his ball because of an issue with a swarm of bees.

Fowler went on to win the match.

“This is the way I was brought up by my dad; I felt like my drop on six took too much time,” Garcia explained afterwards.

“If I had been in his position I would not have enjoyed waiting so long to hit my birdie putt after the great shot he hit.

“I thought it was the only thing I could do on seven to make myself feel better and not feel guilty about anything. I was playing as hard as I could and got three up but he started making birdies and I wasn’t able to keep up.”
