Video: Somebody has gone to ridiculous lengths to dispute the awarding of one free in the All-Ireland Hurling Final

Brian Gavin’s performance in Sunday’s All-Ireland Final has been the topic of much debate but somebody has gone to ridiculous lengths to prove that one inconsequential free should not have been given.

The free in question ended up being saved by Clare goalkeeper Pa Kelly and Clare actually went down and got a score immediately afterwards, so we’re not entirely sure why YouTube user Paddy O’Paddy went to such great lengths to prove why it should never have been awarded.

After Kelly had originally saved a goal-bound effort from Daniel Kearney in the first half, Gavin awarded the free-in for a foul pick-up by Kelly, who bravely got in the way of Anthony Nash’s effort, even if both goalkeepers and Kelly in particular may have been guilty of stealing a few yards.

According to the highly-detailed video above, however, there was no foul pick-up by Kelly and he shouldn’t have had to face the free in the first place.  While pointing that out is fair enough, surely there was no need for the pop at Brian Gavin and Daithi Regan (who defended Gavin to the hilt on Off the Ball on Monday night) at the of the clip.

The performance of referees needs to be analysed but this is surely going a little overboard and we weren’t the only ones that thought so.

Who’d be a referee, eh?
