“I get up every morning and I smile…”

It takes a very special footballer for supporters of almost every club to embrace but former Celtic and Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov is definitely one of them.

Even prior to his battle with cancer, the Bulgarian was incredibly popular amongst football fans due to his incredible passing range and dedicated professionalism.

During his time with Celtic he won 4 league titles, 3 Scottish Cups and 3 league cups in an illustrious career before following Martin O’Neill to Villa Park.

The midfielder will forever be a darling of the Holte End, winning Aston Villa player of the year twice, and then later being given the ultimate accolade by being inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

We all know about the Bulgarian’s brave battle with cancer and the sheer level of support that the footballing world has given him but this video is just superb.

Take a look at the sheer love that Petrov has for football and the joy that he still gets from playing the game. JOE was also delighted to see former Coventry City defender David Buust also make an appearance especially after his own injury demons.

This is terrific stuff especially when you see how other cancer patients have been inspired by Petrov’s own experience. Take a look.
