Video: Terrifying clip shows surfer riding what could be the world’s largest wave

The storm that hit Europe yesterday was a gift for big wave surfers, and it may have enabled Carlos Burle to break a world record.

We’re not the biggest fans of the water here in JOE Towers, often donning water wings just to take a shower, so we are simply in awe of the folks who take to the sea to surf when the weather gets rough.

And boy was it rough yesterday, as the storm that hit Wales and the southern part of England also slammed into mainland Europe. Seeing this as an opportunity for big wave surfing rather than an excuse to head to the pub, a team of Brazilian surfers hit the water in Nazare in Portugal ,home to some of the biggest waves in the world and the spot where American Garrett McNamara rode the world’s biggest wave in 2011.

The lads, of course, shot a video of their exploits, which is frankly terrifying, and at the 3.00 mark of the clip below, you see Burle being towed in to ride an absolute monster which initial reports suggests may be bigger than McNamara’s effort.

Nice touch using the old ‘Old Spice music’ too.

We are in awe…
