You can’t go blaming your Welsh accent for that one Terry.
It must be tough being a snooker commentator. Granted, the silence afforded to the players means that you don’t always have to say an awful lot, but it also means that when you do, the audience, both on television and at the venue itself (listening in on headsets) often hang on your every word.
Terry Griffiths has been in the business long enough to know what he’s doing at this stage, but he had an unfortunate slip while commentating on the clash between Judd Trump and Neil Robertson when noting Trump’s fondness for thin cuts, which came out in a way in which nobody was expecting.
What started off as tittering amongst the audience soon developed into hearty laughter at Griffith’s unfortunate slip of the tongue and while Griffiths chose to deal with it by not saying anything at all, Willie Thorne followed up with a subtle acknowledgement about thirty seconds later.
Unintentional or not, we haven’t heard such profanity on the BBC since John Motson commentated on Euro ’96 almost 20 years ago…
