Stone the flamin’ crows…

While AFL has somewhat of a reputation for being a rough sport at times – and the bloody incident we brought you yesterday will not help that train of thought – you can’t help but admire the amazing catching and athleticism shown by many of the players.

AFL will always attract an Irish interest because of the number of young Irish players who travel to Oz in search of a professional career, but it also produces moments of majestic skill such as in these two videos.

Pearce Hanley is making the most notable of these Irish contributions Down Under at the moment and has been lighting up the AFL this year with some magnificent displays and some moments of magic for the Brisbane Lions.

The age old debate about the GAA losing its young talent to the AFL is valid, although the experiment of converting the players to AFL is less successful than many critics would believe and only a handful ever make a career out of the move.

Judging by the catches in this video below, the standard is amazingly high…

We love Australia and the AFL in JOE, and it must be said, we love Home and Away. We have started a number of (ultimately unsuccessful) petitions to award Alf Stewart the keys of Dublin, but politics got in the way… it’s all about who you know, not what you know these days.
