Video: The commentary from the 1996 Louth county final is up there with the best GAA commentary ever

“He’s round him, he’s round him, he’s round him… It’s in the back of the net!”

The likes of Ger Canning, Darragh Maloney and Marty Morrissey all do a great job, as did Micheal O’ Muircheartaigh Michael O’Hehir back in the day, but when it comes to GAA commentary it’s really hard to beat the local lads, simply because of the passion that comes with having a vested interest in one of the competing teams.

We don’t know how we didn’t come across until now, but footage of the 1996 Louth Senior Football Final made its way into our inbox today with a piece of commentary on a goal from that game that is simply brilliant and about as GAA as you’re going to get.

We have no idea who the commentator is (if you do, please let us know) but he was obviously on the side of St. Joseph’s, who ended up defeating Stabannon Parnells on the day for the first ever senior county title in their history.

As far as vintage GAA commentary goes, Effin Eddie has a bit of competition all of a sudden…

Hat-tip to Donal for sending this one into us
