Video: The plans for the new Casement Park look absolutely class

It won’t be ready for a while yet, but the new-look Casement Park is going to be some venue to play in when it’s all finished.

It was confirmed today that planning approval for a renovation of the Belfast venue has been granted and that an agreement has been reached between the GAA and the DCAL to fund the project.

The new-look, all-seater Casement Park will have a capacity of 38,000, an increase of 5,500 on its current capacity, while 80 per cent of the ground will be covered, with open seating at the Anderstown Road End and approximately 2,000 seats at premium and corporate level.

While we can’t wait to see the finished product, the flythrough video above gives a good idea of what we can expect, as does the picture posted on Twitter by the official Antrim GAA account earlier today.

Work on the stadium is due to commence in the spring and it is to be scheduled to be ready in time for the 2016 Ulster Championship, while it could also be used as a potential venue in any Irish bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Exciting times ahead in Belfast in any case.
