But none of that passion for the game has worn off since they hung up their boots and took over Evo Stick Northern Premier League side Salford City FC.
Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt were there to watch Salford's FA Cup First Round glamour tie at home to Notts County.
You only have to see the reaction of the United legends in the crowd when Salford went 2-0 up to see what it means to them.
