Video: The tip tackle that earned Nick De Luca a 13-week ban today

You probably didn’t see Edinburgh’s defeat to the Osprey’s last Friday. Unfortunately for Nick De Luca, the RaboDirect PRO12 disciplinary committee did.

As we all fretted over the upcoming game with Scotland (sorry for reminding you) last Friday, the RaboDirect PRO12 rolled on. In Wales, the Ospreys took care of business with a 24-7 win over Edinburgh but one incident, late in the game, has had some serious repercussions today.

With just four minutes remaining, Edinburgh’s Nick De Luca lost the head and performed a very dangerous tip tackle on Tom Grabham.

The referee issued a straight red to the centre and today the disciplinary committee effectively banned De Luca for the rest of the season, until May 26.

The statement read: “Having considered all of the evidence presented, including the video of the incident, the disciplinary committee considered the incident to be at the top end level for this type of offence, which has a range of suspensions from 12 to 52 weeks and having taken into account aggravating and mitigating factors, decided that a suspension of 13 weeks was appropriate.”

De Luca can appeal but we expect he hasn’t got much of a case. Have a look for yourself right here.
