VIDEO: These two Cork brothers are our favourite Irish Olympians so far

‘Hon the O’Donovan brothers.

Paul and Gary O’Donovan became instant superstars in our eyes with their interview on RTÉ Sport from Rio on Monday.

The brothers were competing in the lightweight double sculls semi-final after winning their heat in dramatic fashion.

The two boys started off slowly but ultimately beat the Italian crew by 0.38 of a second, and their interview afterwards was just superb.

“We set out the plan going into this race and it fell perfectly into place for us. We went through the Italians in the last 500. They came back at us a little bit but we had enough in the tank to hold them off,” they said.

“We’re pretty pleased with that on our Olympic debut. It’s looking for the next day hopefully.”

As for the wind?

“That kind of thing wouldn’t faze us at all,” according to Gary.

Heroes, and people loved them.
