Chase Headley of the New York Yankees escaped with a busted chin, Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins was not so lucky.
Standing in front of a hard ball being thrown at speeds up to and exceeding 100 mph is an occupational hazard for professional baseball players and Chase Headley of the New York Yankees and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins illustrated how painful it can be when things go wrong last night.
Headley was hit flush on the chin by a fastball pitch thrown by Jake McGee of the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium last night, a blow that immediately knocked him to the ground, where he stayed for a number of minutes before walking off the pitch with assistance from medical officials.

Headley looked a bit dazed and was bleeding from his chin but he seemed to be alright afterwards; unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins, who was knocked unconscious by a pitch to the face during the Marlins’ meeting with the Milwaukee Brewers last night.
The most recent update on Stanton’s condition did not seem pretty, but fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery.
UPDATE: Giancarlo Stanton suffered facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple facial fractures & dental damage after HBP in face.
