The champs are out and it took a goal of real quality from Ronan O’Neill to secure Jordanstown’s passage to the last four of this year’s Sigerson Cup.

The Tyrone county star’s major proved the difference as UUJ claimed a three-point victory over last year’s Champions DIT to secure a semi-final clash against UCD in Queens next weekend, when both-semi-finals and the Sigerson Cup Final will be played over two days.

O’Neill got on the end of a fine team move from UUJ in the second half and sent the most delicate of chips (see above) past the DIT ‘keeper to open up a seven-point lead that the Dublin college could never claw back.

Did O’Neill mean it? You’re damn right he did.

In the other Sigerson quarter-finals, NUI Maynooth had four points to spare over GMIT and will face off against UCC, who enjoyed a comfortable win over Cork rivals CIT, while UCD edged a thrilling all-Dublin encounter with DCU by a point to set-up a meeting with Jordanstown in the last four.

Hat-tip to the indefatigable Jerome Quinn for his help with this one
