It did take him a good few attempts, mind.

Given his record over the last few years, it’s going to take something out of the ordinary for Padraig Harrington to win his third British Open title in Hoylake this week, but if he can pull off an impossible shot like the one he nails in the video above, well then hell, he can achieve anything.

Harrington will be hoping beyond hope that he doesn’t find himself in the predicament he found himself in a challenge for HSBC, sponsors of the Open Championship, who asked him to either hit the pin, get within nine yards of it or actually hole an approach shot from 135 yards while stuck behind two trees. Oh yeah, and he had a blindfold on as well. Easy, right?

With the help of long-term caddie Ronan Flood, Harrington tried a range of different shots with a number of different clubs, but eventually he pulled it off and in some style too.

You would imagine that Harrington will never face a similar situation in Hoylake this week but then again, we’ve seen these short of impossible situations present themselves in ‘major’ tournaments before…
