It was about time.
With nearly 80 minutes gone in their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow this evening, Manchester United looked on course to record their fourth consecutive 0-0 draw.
Then Wayne Rooney did this…

Given the amount of criticism that has been levelled at him of late it was perhaps fitting that it was Rooney that ended United’s drought.
It should be noted that it was Rooney’s first goal in 955 minutes of football in the Champions League (discounting qualifying rounds) and that CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev has now gone 35 games in the competition without keeping a clean sheet.
Important goal all the same, mind.
