Video: Why did Liam Sheedy’s commentary of Shane Dowling’s goal completely change on The Sunday Game?

This is very unusual...

This is very unusual…

Limerick dismantled Wexford in the All-Ireland Hurling Quarter Final on Sunday to set up an All-Ireland Semi Final with Kilkenny. The Shannonsiders scored 4-26 and 2-08 of that was scored by the in-form Shane Dowling.

There was a bit of controversy surrounding Dowling’s second goal as he appeared to palm the ball into the net and Liam Sheedy, who was on co-commentary duty on The Sunday Game Live, felt that referee Barry Kelly shouldn’t have allowed the goal because it didn’t hit Dowling’s hurl.

However, when the highlights of the game were showed on The Sunday Game later that evening, Sheedy’s opinion had completely changed and he felt that Kelly was right to allow the score, have a listen here…

JOE looked back over both broadcasts on the RTÉ Player today and the YouTube clip isn’t edited, the commentary does actually change. We wonder who made the call to change that…

Hat-tip to Camera Doesn’t Lie who tweeted it to us earlier.
