The Big Crapple…

This takes balls of steel. Five of Red Bull Air Force’s finest professional wingsuit fliers took to the Manhattan morning sky recently to offer us mere mortals the chance to view the iconic New York City skyline in an entirely new way.

Taking part in the extraordinary skydive were Jeff Provenzano, Sean MacCormac and Amy Chmelecki, team manager Jon Devore and videographer Andy Harrington.

The five fliers were able to make the rare wingsuit flight over the city by utilising the latest technology in wingsuits – special jumpsuits that add surface area to the human body to enable a significant increase in lift – suits which allowed the fliers to travel an incredible two miles in two minutes to get an amazing view of the cityscape.

According to the official Red Bull mission brief, the five ascended “to 2,500 metres above the city via aircraft, where the elite skydive team deplaned near the southern tip of Manhattan. Aided by their wingsuits, the fliers were able to propel to 190km/h during freefall, passing by defining buildings of the Financial District, before heading uptown where they deployed their parachutes – landing safely on a barge floating on the Hudson River.”

Brilliant stuff…
