Ireland’s Seamus O’Connor set out on his first qualifying run in the Men’s Slopestyle event today and we’ve got a look at him in action…

The first event to kick off the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics was the Men’s Slopestyle Qualification at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, and it saw Ireland’s first competitor, Seamus O’Connor, competing for a spot in the finals.

It didn’t quite go to plan for O’Connor today, as he failed to qualify directly into the final due to a low ‘best score’ of just 40points, but he’s not out of the competition just yet and he has still qualified for the semi-finals, which take place on Saturday.

The 16-year-old, who’s originally from San Diego, finished 13th in his heat earlier this morning out of just 14 competitors. However, as we said above, O’Connor will get a second chance to reach the final when he competes in the semi-final on Saturday , so be sure to keep an eye out for any coverage that might be on BBC.

For now, here’s a look at the footage that was recently uploaded to the Olympic Council of Ireland YouTube page…
