In times like that, you expect your big players to step up to the plate, but instead of doing that, Alex Song left his team-mates with a near-impossible task after deciding to hit out at Mario Mandzukic with a stupid and completely needless elbow in the back off the ball.
Although it would have been a stupid thing to do regardless of where the ref was, doing it right in front of him was hardly the most intelligent thing to do and unsurprisingly, he was immediately given his marching orders.
