Dunne wasn’t pulling any punches.
Irish boxer Michael O’Reilly this evening confirmed that he would no longer be contesting the suspension imposed on him last week for a positive drug test.
In a statement from his legal team, the 23-year old admitted unintentionally taking a supplement that may have contained a prohibited substance, saying that it had been given to him “by someone unrelated to his team or association”.
The news was the subject of a discussion amongst RTE’s boxing analysts on Tuesday evening and Bernard Dunne in particular had strong opinions on O’Reilly’s actions and the consequences for O’Reilly personally and for Irish boxing.
Dunne labelled O’Reilly’s taking of the supplement as “probably the most idiotic decision he’s ever made” and said that the episode had “damaged” Irish boxing.
