WATCH: Conor McGregor sends motivational message to Liverpool’s new arrival from Ireland

Patrick McCarry

“Football was a big thing. Like most boys around Ireland, England, Scotland, it is a big part of our culture.” – Conor McGregor, 2015

Conor McGregor is spending his free time wisely.

After his trip to America’s West Coast to sort out business dealings and catch up with old friends, McGregor is back in Ireland. His first child is expected to arrive in May but, as any parent knows, the clarion call could arrive sooner rather than later. Tenterhooks all round.

Whenever he is back home, and not mobbed, McGregor is giving of his time to fight fans and folks that are just enraptured with his journey. Every couple of days here at SportsJOE, we will be sent a picture or video of McGregor posing with fans and sending messages of support and congratulations.

Earlier this week, McGregor took a little time out to pass on his best wishes to Glen McAuley from Tallaght, who signed a professional contract with Liverpool last week.

The 17-year-old’s mother spotted McGregor at Straight Blast Gym. She asked if he would send a message to the Tallaght youngster and ‘The Notorious’ obliged: “Glen, I’m here with your mother. I want to say congratulations on signing for Liverpool. Work hard, recover smart and congratulations.”

If that, and training under Steven Gerrard, doesn’t motivate the lad, nothing will.

McAuley’s parents are incredibly proud and he’ll be delighted to know the UFC lightweight champion has got his back.
